In December 1999, Stageworks staged the largest theme dinner ever produced in North Queensland
at the award winning Cairns Convention Centre, when the multi-million
dollar 'Silverstar' Cruise ship visited Cairns before embarking on a millennium
world cruise. The spectacular rainforest theme required precision rigging
as over 30 fully grown palm trees were placed in the great hall. The entire
lobby area and great hall was totally transformed, requiring 200 camouflage
nets, 3 waterfalls, over 1500 plants and vines, sound and spectacular
lighting to complete this unique setting. Engelburt Humperdink and his
band was one of the surprises for the evening, as the entertainment was
revealed behind a rainforest wall, complete with pyrotechnic display.
With a performance from internationally acclaimed Tjapukai Dance Theatre
and the opportunity to 'touch and feel' native Australian animals, guests
enjoyed a night of tranquillity within this exclusively designed fairytale.
